Being able to enter the path of the True Buddha-Dharma is the greatest blessing of my life! Especially after respectfully watching the Dharma Video “Buddhas Verified That the Seemingly Ordinary Holy Deeds of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III Can Only Be Accomplished by a Buddha,” my heart was filled with deep reverence toward Namo H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III—so great, so holy, and so inconceivable! From that moment on, I was inspired to respectfully request the H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III- A Treasury of True Buddha-Dharma and to take the examination to become a Dharma-Listening Master. Through respectfully listening to the Dharma discourses of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III and studying H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III- A Treasury of True Buddha-Dharma, I began to reflect on myself—realizing that even a single thought or intention must never harm sentient beings or be driven by selfishness and attachment to self.
Awakening Through the Teachings of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III
In the Dharma discourse “The True and Unfailing Deeds of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III,” Part 4/5, Namo H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III explained in simple and relatable ways that all phenomena become second nature through habit. I suddenly awakened to the importance of how habits shape our behavior!
I am a living example of this truth.
Realizing My Mistake and Correcting It Immediately
Once, after washing clothes, I went outside to pour the dirty water and casually threw it behind my neighbor’s house. Coincidentally, my aunt and several neighbors were sitting nearby chatting and saw what I did. They said, “Look at you, how could you throw water behind someone else’s house?” I replied, “It’s nothing. The washing water will dry up quickly.” My aunt responded, “If it dries up quickly, why don’t you pour it behind your own house?” I didn’t say anything, but I felt upset and thought, Why is she being so petty today?
When I returned home, I suddenly remembered that Namo H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III had taught in the treasure book Learning from the Buddha that we must reflect on ourselves three times a day—to examine whether we are becoming kind, compassionate, and beneficial to others, and to correct any mistakes immediately. I began to think: Have I ever had bad thoughts toward others? Have I done anything that could harm others? Suddenly, I realized: why didn’t I just pour the water behind my own house? What I did was wrong! It was a bad habit I had developed unknowingly. I felt remorseful and vowed to change immediately. I went to my aunt and said, “I’m sorry, I was wrong.” She didn’t say much, but her smile told me she was happy and no longer minded it.
The Struggle to Overcome My Addiction to Mahjong
I also used to have another very bad habit—playing mahjong. I played day and night, neglecting my household chores. Dishes and laundry could wait, but mahjong couldn’t! My home was a mess. I even played for high stakes and sometimes stayed out all night. My husband, being honest and kind, dared not say anything and just kept his frustration to himself, while I remained indifferent.
Later, when we decided to have a second child, a boy, my mindset began to change. Since we were getting older, I thought about our children’s future. I realized that no amount of money or books could truly help him unless I accumulated blessings through cultivating virtue. That was when I first decided to learn Buddhism, though at that time, my motivation was still selfish, focused only on my family’s benefit.
Learning from the Dharma and Changing Myself
After earnestly listening to the Dharma discourses and studying H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III- A Treasury of True Buddha-Dharma, I gradually understood deeper principles. I examined myself and realized that playing mahjong was my greatest bad habit. I decided I must change.

At first, it was extremely difficult because this habit had become second nature. But I was determined — if I didn’t change, I wouldn’t be a qualified Buddhist disciple, and I wouldn’t be able to help myself or my family. Even Buddhas and Bodhisattvas couldn’t help me if I didn’t help myself!
I started by reducing the time I played, then by only playing small games, and eventually stopped entirely. The process was tough and filled with temptations, but I persevered.
A New Life of Harmony and Gratitude
Now, several years have passed since I last played mahjong. My neighbors often express amazement, saying, “You used to be obsessed with mahjong, but now you never play. That’s unbelievable!” Even my husband praised me in front of relatives and friends, his happiness shining through. I didn’t say much, but in my heart, I knew it was the True Buddha-Dharma of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III that helped me overcome my bad habit and brought greater harmony to my family.
Now I always keep in mind the teaching of Namo H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III:
“All phenomena become second nature through habit.”
I must continue to eliminate bad habits and cultivate good ones in order to be a true Buddhist disciple who benefits others.
